Physical Education

AIMS

The P.E. department give each pupil the opportunity to have a high quality sporting experience in lessons and every pupil the opportunity to represent the school in competition.

Key Stage 3

Pupils in Years 7-9 receive a double lesson of core PE a week. The pupils travel offsite to Everards Meadow September until Christmas and from Easter until the end of term in July. From January until Easter lessons take place in the Bunyan Centre, Trinity Arts Sports Hall and Athletics Stadium Sports Hall.

Core PE consists of a diverse range of sports to meet the demands of the national curriculum. Sports are delivered in line with the competition calendar allowing pupils a pathway through to representing the school in competition. We deliver sports such as Rugby, Football, Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Rounders, Cricket and Softball.

Key Stage 4

We offer Edexcel GCSE P.E. at KS4. The course is mainly theory based with pupils requiring a good level of physical ability before undertaking the course. We also insist pupils pupils take part in sport in and outside of school, playing for a local team or club. The course is examined through two written papers, a practical exam focusing on three sports and coursework with a weighting of 60% to 40% theory, practical.

Pupils in KS4 also receive core P.E. lessons with a double lesson a fortnight. Further to this, pupils can also supplement the PE offer through electives.

Advice for parents

We would advise that pupils wishing to take part in GCSE PE should wherever possible play club sport outside of school and have an organised and independent attitude when approaching this course.
