Art Teacher: Miss Glasspool
Aims:We aim to develop a creative atmosphere across the school building, where art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. Art and design will provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Students’ will use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. Through art and design activities, they learn how to make informed value judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions, becoming actively involved in shaping environments. They explore ideas and meanings in the work of artists, craftspeople and designers. They develop understanding about the diverse roles and functions of art, craft and design in contemporary life and in different times and cultures. Understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts have the power to enrich our personal and public lives.
Key Stage 3:
Students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups and study a well-structured programme of schemes. These change on a termly basis and cover a broad range of starting points, themes and cultures. Students work in a variety of media including, Sculpture, Clay work, 2D work, 3D work, Computer Graphics, Modelling, Sketching, drawing and mark making.
Assessments take place at the end of each completed piece.
Key Stage 4:
Art and Design is a popular option choice at key stage 4 and a range of themes are studied over the course, using appropriate materials, techniques and processes. The units are sequenced across the course and each unit delivers the attainment target Knowledge, Skills and Understanding programs of study. Over the course, all students will experience a breadth of study and complete work to meet the four required assessment objectives of AQA.
We are consistently changing, adapting and updating our choice of themes that students study to ensure that we are maintaining enjoyment and enthusiasm throughout the 2 year course.
Unit 1 = Decay, an A4 sketchbook of developing ideas based on the work of famous artists together with a range of experiments. A final piece will be completed over 10 lessons.
Unit 1 = Ordinary to Extraordinary, an A3 sketchbook of developing ideas focusing on observational drawings. A final piece will be completed in exam conditions over a 10 hour period.
Unit 1 = Decay
Unit 2 = Externally Set Examination paper based on various themes set by AQA together with preparation work in the form of sketchbook development. A final piece will be completed in exam conditions over a 10 hour period.
