Raising our game
As Victoria Pendelton kicked off about the way sports is taught to girls, our school was upping its game. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/32138596
Five girls from Bedford Free School joined Victoria and other leading sportswomen at the Girls Active camp at Loughborough University hosted by the Youth Sport Trust at the end of March. Bedford Free School was one of only 30 schools nationally invited to join the event. The five students will now be encouraging other girls at school to reach their sporting and fitness potential.
Head of PE Michael Cox said: "We think outside the box when it comes to encouraging young people into sports here at Bedford Free School. We make use of the fantastic community sports facilities such as Bedford International Athletic Stadium to inspire our students.
"Being invited as one of only 30 schools in the UK to this event is recognition of the commitment made here at Bedford Free School to sports and team activities which foster healthy competion and a team spirit."
It has just been announced that £1 Million has been allocated to Bedford Free School for a spectacular rooftop all weather sports hall.
Principal Mark Lehain said: "We are a school that takes sport seriously."
